Destination Information for Honduras

These exceptional coastlines and beaches, combined with the colonial villages of Gracias, Comayagua, ancient Mayan ruins at Copan and the Moskitia National Park means Honduras is a destination with lots to offer the adventurous traveller. Sadly, the country also has a reputation for gangs and violence, so caution is advised.

The capital, Tegucigalpa, is also the largest city, with an international airport, tourist-friendly amenities and westernised shopping areas. In the Northwest, another major hub is San Pedro Sula. If you’re looking to see a quieter and less Westernised example of city life, Comayagua, the former capital of Honduras, is a pretty colonial town with a cathedral and impressive Spanish architecture.

Exotic wildlife and rare species of birds, plants and insects are plentiful in Honduras’ national parks, as well as indigenous communities who still live according to the traditions of their ancestors. Join an organised tour where sights and activities include jungle waterfalls and night trekking, and to be sure of experiencing all the essential highlights.
