Destination Information for Mozambique

This isn’t a typical tourist destination if you looking for a standard beach holiday, although luxury package deals do exist. Intrepid travellers will find Mozambique extremely rewarding, though, as there’s much to explore for those who make the effort. For most citizens of Mozambique, Portuguese is their natural second language, being used by approximately half their population.

Warm tropical water and idyllic beaches are just one aspect of the country making Mozambique a unique destination. From excellent fishing to diving and snorkelling, you can enjoy most pursuits without the crowds you’d find in other, more ‘tourist-friendly’, locations.

The port city of Pemba is a draw for most visitors, offering a local market and a nearby coral reef for diving. If you’re interested in the wildlife of the country, there are a number of national parks which are worth a visit.

For example, Gorongosa National Park in central Mozambique, from where you can see majestic elephants, a multitude of birds, as well as buffalo, zebra, hippos and crocodiles. Join an organised tour for the safest and most reliable way to experience breathtaking African reserve wildlife. Visit during the dry season from May to November for pleasant temperatures.

As you are enjoying Mozambique’s plentiful wildlife and beautiful coastline, it is important you receive the appropriate travel vaccinations to help you stay safe. Vaccines required include hepatitis A, typhoid and diphtheria, tetanus and polio. Additional vaccines such as Hepatitis B, Cholera and Rabies may be required. Book a consultation with one of our specialist nurses and they will take you through the risks of visiting the country and how to minimise these.
