Uganda

Once described by Winston Churchill as the “Pearl of Africa”, Uganda, set in the East of Africa, is a popular destination for wildlife fans, and has a growing cultural scene. Uganda is home to the Mountain Gorilla, a much sought-after sight for safari enthusiasts. These magnificent creatures, along with flamingos and rare tree-climbing lions, can be found at the Queen Elizabeth National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, close to the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Destination Information for Uganda

There are a multitude of beautiful natural sights and National Parks from which to see impressive flora and fauna and observe some of Africa’s most exotic wildlife in its natural habitat. If you’re interested in culture, however, you too will find Uganda an extremely rewarding destination. The capital, Kampala, is set by the banks of the huge Lake Victoria, and you’ll find bustling bars, clubs and restaurants in the tourist areas. From museums and architecture to shops and theatres, there’s plenty here to keep you occupied.

Whether you choose kayaking on the River Nile, a horseback safari or a river tour on quad bikes, Uganda is the ideal place to explore some of Africa’s most iconic treasures. The dry seasons are January-February and June-September, but if you’ve set your heart on spotting a gorilla, it’s easier to get a permit during quieter tourist months – October to November.
